AAP leaders attack SAD-BJP, Congress at Malerkotla rally

From a “prosperous” state, Punjab has been reduced to a “problem” state by the Badal government, said Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Bhagwant Mann and Sucha Singh Chhotepur, during the ‘Punjab Jodo Abhiyan’ rally, here on Wednesday.

Attacking both the SAD-BJP alliance and the Congress, the AAP leaders said they saw Congress no different from the SAD-BJP alliance in harming the interests of the state and its people, particularly the farmers, whom they described as the backbone of the economy.

“Unlike the Akali and the Congress leaders, who have business interests as their priority, I have none. Nor I have any personal axe to grind. I keep awake in Parliament and ask pro-people questions. I do not sleep like the Akali MPs in the Parliament,” said the Sangrur MP.

Attacking the Punjab governments, both, under the SAD-BJP and Congress rules, the AAP leaders said 75 per cent business houses have migrated from Punjab and new entrepreneurs and corporate houses were shy in investing in the state, as leaders of these parties wanted a share in every pie.

AAP convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur mocked at deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal, saying, “People now know where Punjab stands and are aware of the credibility of the government. You name any business and the Badals have their share in everything from sand to bread to transport to media.”

Attacking the government on farmers’ suicide, AAP leaders said, those very farmers who once brought the green revolution in the country were now themselves in the red.

Pointing at the large gathering, Mann said, “These people are here not for fun, but are worried about their future. They regret electing the Akalis in 2012 and will not repeat that mistake.” Chhotepur called the chief minister “an opportunist”, who sided with the BJP in Punjab and Delhi and shared the dais with the Chautalas in Haryana. AAP leaders wondered as to why the Prime Minister had not given aid to the state despite three visits and Badal’s seeking dozen-odd ‘packages’.
