Universal Air Travel Plan (UATP), an airline payments solution, has partnered with Bitnet, a digital currency payment management platform, to enable over 260 international airlines to accept Bitcoin.
UATP is owned by 30 different private companies, and makes its services available to 260 airlines. Because of its new partnership with Bitnet, these airlines will be capable of accepting Bitcoin. However, that does not necessarily mean that the airlines will actually start accepting Bitcoin or any other crypto-currency, they simply have the option available to them.
Bitnet was founded in 2014, an in October of that year raised $ 14 million USD in a funding round led by Highland Capital. Also in October, Bitnet partnered with Acromobile Payments, enabling any merchants using this payments software to accept Bitcoin.
Some of the airlines that hold ownership in UATP include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and US Airways.
