How To Clean Lacrosse Equipment

Lacrosse is one of the oldest team sports in the United States. It is said to have originated from the Native Americans of the United States and Canada. In the olden days the sport had been used in several ways such as for religious rituals, to help heal the sick, resolve conflicts between tribes and communities and prepare men for war. Today lacrosse is an organized sport played by children and adults. It is one sport that uses a lot of equipment that require constant cleaning. There are the sticks, pads, helmets, uniforms, gloves, goggles and helmets that need to be kept clean to make everything hygienic. Below are the steps on how to clean lacrosse equipment.

The body pads that you wear next to your skin as well as your uniform should be machine washed. Be sure to check their labels as some have to be washed using cold water while others should be washed in warm water. Other pads and uniforms should be laid out flat and air dried rather than placed inside the dryer. Always check to make sure so that you will be able to use your pads and uniform for a long time. Make sure that you turn your uniform inside out before putting them in the washing machine to protect the logos and number placed on them. Use mild detergent and a gentle cycle to wash your pads and uniform.
Your gloves are also easily soiled and drenched in sweat. These should be hand washed to prevent them from falling apart and getting out of shape. Wash them gently with mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly and wrap them in a towel to squeeze out most of the water before air drying the gloves.
Clean your helmet and lacrosse stick with a damp cloth. Wipe the outside and inside of the helmet as well as around the grills. You can use soapy water for a more thorough cleaning. Rinse with clean water and wipe your helmet and stick dry with a soft cloth. Allow them to air dry completely. Turn your helmet upside down so that air can circulate inside the helmet to facilitate the drying process. Spray the inside of your helmet with a sanitizing or anti-bacterial spray to eliminate germs and remove the odor of sweat.
Your goggles should also be cleaned after each use. Rinse them in warm water if it is not too dirty, using your fingers to wipe the lens. Use warm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge to give the goggles a thorough washing. Rinse with warm water and wipe the goggles dry.
Non-abrasive foam cleanser can remove scruff marks from your lacrosse stick and helmet to maintain their surfaces smooth. These foam cleansers are also called cleaning erasers by some manufacturers. You can also use a fine scrub pad to even out the scuff marks.

Keeping your lacrosse equipment clean after each use will eliminate the build up of germs that can cause serous infections. Remember that sweat, dead skin cells and body oils transferred to sports gear are fertile grounds for the growth of bacteria and molds. Practice cleanliness and sanitary habits and you will be healthy and ready to play your sport.
