Mahindra petrol range debuts with KUV100

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd on Friday unveiled its compact SUV KUV100 powered by its first petrol engine mFalcon. Though the gasoline engine line has been in the making for three years, the timing of the debut is significant given the recent curbs on sale of diesel vehicles in Delhi, the largest market in the country.

he executive further said Mahindra would evaluate the option of gasoline variants for its existing products after meeting their torque and power characteristics. “The recent development (NGT and Supreme Court ruling against sale of diesel luxury vehicles in Delhi) impacts 2% of our volumes. We will find a solution to the existing products. Till that happens, our new products—TUV300 and KUV100—will generate the necessary pull from dealerships,” he said.

While the TUV300, a 7-seater compact SUV, was launched earlier this year, the KUV100 is a 5-seater pitted directly against Ford EcoSport.
The latest 1.2 litre engine is named mFalcon after the bird of prey. Its existing range of diesel engines, too, are similarly named mHawk and mEagle. The 1.2 litre dual VVT petrol engine delivers 82 HP while the turbo-charged diesel variant delivers 77 HP.
