Obi SF1 and SJ1.5 launched, to come to India soon

Ex Apple CEO and former Pepsi president, John Sculley’s newly found company, Obi has just unveiled two new smartphones in its Worldphone series, known as the SF1 and the SJ1.5. The former is the better equipped of the two and comes with a 1080p display and a Snapdragon 615 processor while the SJ1.5 has a moderate 720p display and a Mediatek made chipset.

These handsets will apparently break cover in Africa, Middle East and Asia by October, with no specific word on an Indian release at this point. The company had intentions to release the device in India last year, but that didn’t materialize. But there is some hope that both these handsets will eventually launch in the country.

The SF1 is priced at $ 199 (Rs 13,100) and $ 249 (Rs 16,400), which is quite steep even for a midrange offering such as this. The SJ1.5 will be significantly cheaper at $ 129 or Rs 8,500, but since it lacks LTE connectivity, the handset might have a tough time co-existing among other budget LTE devices.

Hardware specifications of the Obi SF1: 5-inch Full HD (1920×1080) display · 8mm thickness · 147 grams · Octa core Snapdragon 615 processor · 13MP rear camera (f/2.0), 5MP front camera · 2 or 3GB of RAM · 16 or 32GB of storage with a microSD card slot · Android 5.0 Lollipop · 3,000 mAh battery · 4G LTE connectivity with dual SIM (micro + nano SIM)
