Pornhub now offers online complaint submission form for revenge porn victims

0

Pornhub, one of largest adult entertainment distributors in the world, is now taking steps to tackle revenge pornon its website. It’s introduced a new online submission form that makes it easier for victims to identify unauthorised uploads of pornographic content featuring themselves and have it flagged for removal.

Revenge porn is (usually) when a person uploads pornographic content of someone they were romantically involved with, once the relationship ends. It’s a serious invasion of privacy, one that companies like Google, Reddit, and Microsoft (with Bing) have been fighting for a while, de-listing revenge porn search results and de-ranking adult websites that carry them.

Pornhub, in a press release yesterday, said that it hopes the new form will make it easier for people to identify revenge porn and request its removal. Takedown requests could originally only be filed with the website via email, but the new online submission form (not linked here for NSFW reasons) intends to speed up the process. Pornhub says complaints have fallen by 38 percent over the past two years but, seeing as it gets around 60 million visitors a day (and that number is constantly climbing), it’s possible the total volume of complaints has risen.

On the plus side, Pornhub is likely the first major adult site to take a public stand against non-consensual pornography and streamline the reporting process. And though a digital signature is required while submitting the form, to very the authenticity of the complaint, it does not require users to submit government-issued photo ID, so as not to deter complainants.
