In this specific video, we’re going to be talking about connecting your domain to a web hosting account.
In order for this to work, you will need to have registered your domain name to a web hosting account. In order for this to work, you will need to have registered your domain name and your web hosting account. So the first thing that you’re going to do is, you’re going to access the “welcome” email that your web hosting company gives you. And then you’re going to get the DNS or nameservers. And in step number two, we’re going to go to your domain registrar, and enter them.
Now if you have no idea what I just said, don’t worry, because I’m going to show you step-by-step how to go about doing this. So this is an example of an email that HostGator.com is going to send you, or if you use a different web-hosting company, this is also a good example of what they will send you.
Basically what you’re looking for are what we call “name servers” and the web hosting company is basically going to provide you with either two name servers, or three or four. In this case, we’ve got two name servers. So I’m going to copy this over, because I’m going to need these two pieces of information when I go to my domain registrar, and basically enter these in. so in this case, I’m using NameCheap.com and what you can do here is – since you’ve purchased the domain name under NameCheap.com or if you’re using GoDaddy, you can use that as well. But in this case, you need to go to Domains, and Manage My Domains.
And then at that point, you’re going to see a list of domain names, and you’re going to select the domain name that you’re going to connect. At this point, you’re going to click on Transfer DNS to Webhost, and this is the area where you’re going to enter the DNS or name servers. So simply copy the first name server at the top here, and the second one here; and if they provide you with any more than that, you can simply enter the rest of them here.
Now in this specific example, I’m not using HostGator, I’m going to be connecting it to a different web hosting company. And once I’m done, simply click on Save Changes. Now in this example I’m using a different domain name, but this works on any type of domain name. So since I’ve connected it to my webhosting account, usually it takes anywhere from 24-72 hours. Now if I go to the site here, and if all works, and if you’re connected to HostGator you’re going to see a HostGator landing page; but if you’re connected to a different web hosting company, you’re more likely going to see something like this.
So now we know that we’ve connected the domain name with the web hosting company, and we’re good to go!
